Remembering Gurus
| It was the year 1965 young Arun
first met Ustad Abu Daud in Berhampore, Murshidabad. He was the disciple of Pandit A.
Kanan and Pandit Girija Shankar Chakrabarty - one of the stalwart of classical music in
the then Bengal, both of Kirana Gharana. Arun took the
initial training from him for more than 10 years before he himself brought Arun to the
legendary Sarengi maestro Ustad Sagiruddin Khan sahab. |
|
| Ustad Sagiruddin Khan taught Arun
some nuances and intricacies of Rag and the Gaykee (Style) of Kirana Gharana. Arun took
direct lessons from him for 5 years before joining SRA in 1978. |
|
| After joining in SRA in 1978 as a
scholar Arun got the privilege of learning insights of Rampur Sehswan Gharana from Late
Ustad Ishtiaq Hussain Khan. It was a short span of learning experience before Khan sahab
died in 1979. |
|
| After the sudden demise of Ustad
Ishtiaq Hussain Khan, Arun finally took the opportunity to learn the aesthetics of Indian
Classical and semi classical music from legendary teacher Padmabhushan Pandit Jnan Prakash
Ghosh. It is from whom Arun captured the art of writing beautiful lyrics and composing
great bandishes (compositions) in classical and semi classical field. It is him who taught Arun how to blend all the richness and goodness of different Gharanas in one Gaykee (Style) and make a separate Gaykee for your own which is unique and it helped Arun immensely as today Arun is one of the few artists in the world who can proclaim of having completely unique blend of Gaykee in Hindusthani Classical Music. |
